The central bank removes complex export declarations for independent professionals earning foreign income.
The Reserve Bank of India offers major compliance relief to digital freelancers who receive overseas payments.
India’s digital gig economy is getting a major regulatory boost. Independent professionals will face significantly less paperwork for foreign income. The Reserve Bank of India has updated its export compliance framework. As a result, resident service exporters no longer need a separate Export Declaration Form.
Authorities previously required service exporters to submit this document within a strict deadline. The old rules forced them to file the paperwork within 30 days of invoicing. However, the central bank recognised the growing burden on individual creators. Freelancers and YouTubers now get an automatic exemption from separate filings.
Professionals simply need to provide payment details to their authorised dealer bank. The bank will also treat this action as a deemed submission of the form. This new process saves citizens managing small overseas remittances significant time. The regulatory update is effective retrospectively from early October 2026.
The central bank also defined a resident individual as a natural person. Meanwhile, officials also granted this deemed-submission facility to non-resident exporters. This specific relief applies when their inward remittance falls below Rs 10 lakh. Authorised dealer banks must now record larger service imports swiftly.
Institutions will log transactions over Rs 10 lakh within five working days. Ultimately, this policy shift aligns traditional banking with modern independent working models.
