Volvo Cars is partnering with Accenture and Google Cloud to revolutionise its digital infrastructure. The manufacturer is now the lead industry partner for the Horizon platform. This open-source environment streamlines how automotive software is built and deployed. Consequently, engineers can test and launch new features much more efficiently.
Volvo is migrating its global Android Automotive development to this new system. The transition provides teams with faster workflows and virtual testing tools. Gregor Zetsche from Volvo noted that complex products require a matching development environment. He believes the platform empowers teams to solve engineering hurdles more effectively.
Modern vehicles increasingly rely on digital services like navigation and voice assistants. However, building these tools for lifelong updates requires significant resources. The Horizon platform addresses this by offering virtual testing environments. In turn, testing speeds can increase by up to 9x using AI agents.
Development costs for infotainment features could fall by 40%. Furthermore, optimised pipelines reduce build times from hours to just minutes. Remote access to virtual hardware also helps developers work from any location. This setup reduces the need for expensive physical testing equipment.
Juergen Reers of Accenture stated that Horizon offers a flexible way to deliver features. He mentioned that the platform allows engineers to focus on driver experiences. Google Cloud’s Henry Bzeih added that software now defines automotive brands’ identities. He noted that the collaboration ensures high-quality features reach drivers at high speed.
