Uzbekistan will soon welcome 300 Switchblade flying cars following a major agreement between AIR Tashkent and Samson Sky.
Uzbekistan is preparing to introduce hybrid-electric flying vehicles to its transport network. Consequently, AIR Tashkent and American manufacturer Samson Sky recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding. This agreement aims to bring the Switchblade Flying Car to Central Asia.
Furthermore, the partners formalised this deal during the inauguration of the Easy to Fly Academy in Tashkent. The strategic partnership focuses on facilitating the sale of at least 300 Switchblade units. Therefore, the total transaction value could exceed $60 million USD, which equals 719 million UZS.
Additionally, AIR Tashkent plans to secure a bulk order from this initial batch. They will utilise these vehicles for personal and commercial pilot training programmes. Former aerobatic pilot Anna V. Grebenshchikova played a crucial role in connecting the two organisations.
Subsequently, she noted that the initiative evolved from a 2024 concept to develop private aviation. Moreover, introducing innovative transport modernises travel along the historic Silk Road routes. Samson Sky will supply dedicated flight simulators and comprehensive training assistance.
Consequently, local mechanics will learn to service and maintain the novel vehicles. The two companies will also collaborate with the Uzbekistan government. Together, they aim to secure official regulatory approval for both road and airspace usage.
Sam Bousfield, the founder of Samson Sky, highlighted the regional advantages of the aircraft. He stated that the vehicles offer substantial benefits for rapid national and international transit. Furthermore, faster travel capabilities will enable local enterprises to operate more efficiently.
Similarly, AIR Tashkent official Anvar Sulaymonov expressed strong optimism regarding the partnership. He indicated that the collaboration represents a major technological bridge between the USA and Uzbekistan. Thus, this joint venture promises to stimulate the broader general aviation market.
The Switchblade model completed its inaugural test flight in November 2023. Currently, the hybrid-electric vehicle is entering early production phases in the United States. Furthermore, the car accelerates to 60 mph in just five seconds.
It reaches top ground speeds of 125 mph before transforming. Upon reaching a local airport, the vehicle transitions into flight mode in under three minutes. Consequently, operators can fly up to 500 miles on a single tank of premium unleaded petrol.
The aircraft cruises at altitudes of 13,000 feet at speeds of 160 mph. Additionally, all flight control surfaces retract safely into the chassis during road transit. AIR Tashkent operates as the first private aviation firm in Uzbekistan.
