Plenum Power aims to tackle America’s surging energy demands driven by AI and rapid electrification.

EIG and ACWA have partnered to invest $4 billion in modernising the United States power grid.

The United States power grid faces immense pressure from rapid electrification and the expansion of artificial intelligence. As a result, meeting this surging demand requires substantial private investment and new generation capacity.

To address this critical shortfall, institutional investor EIG and Saudi-listed ACWA have formed Plenum Power. This strategic partnership will aggressively pursue power-sector investments nationwide.

The joint venture aims to launch with an initial equity commitment of approximately $4 billion. It builds upon prior successful collaborations between the two energy giants in the Middle East.

Rising electricity demand is currently disrupting renewable energy development due to supply-chain inflation and regulatory shifts. However, these market conditions create highly attractive entry points for scaled corporate investments.

EIG chief executive R. Blair Thomas noted that current industry dynamics will inevitably drive market consolidation. He expects Plenum Power to capitalise on this evolving environment perfectly.

ACWA chief executive Dr Samir J. Serhan confirmed the venture represents a significant international expansion opportunity. He also emphasised their goal of delivering resilient projects efficiently at massive scale.

EIG president Andrew Ellenbogen said the venture uses a proven platform-creation strategy from previous initiatives. The partnership plans to grow through strategic acquisitions and new capacity development.

ACWA brings extensive global expertise, managing 111 assets across 16 countries worldwide. The firm currently manages $127 billion in international assets.

Meanwhile, EIG has committed over $14.2 billion globally to energy transition infrastructure projects. Ultimately, this combined financial and operational strength aims to thoroughly modernise American energy infrastructure.
