The Global Fintech Fest 2026 in Mumbai has solidified its position as the premier event for the financial sector. National Stock Exchange chief Ashish Kumar Chauhan described the gathering as a cornerstone of the domestic financial calendar. He noted that the festival has grown into the world’s largest event of its kind. Consequently, market leaders and policymakers are now using this platform to shape the future of financial technology.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi outlined a transformative vision for the industry during his address on Tuesday. He urged companies to prioritise top-notch cybersecurity and establish ethical data-protection standards. Furthermore, he proposed a Fintech Consumer Protection Index to rate companies with transparency. Such measures would ensure that India becomes a gateway to unlimited global opportunities.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the need to move beyond simple payment systems. He suggested that the next growth phase must include credit, insurance, and pension services. Additionally, he emphasised the potential of Agentic AI and quantum computing. These technologies could significantly improve services for small businesses and workers currently underserved by traditional banks.
India’s UPI system continues to drive this digital revolution, having surpassed 2,400 crore monthly transactions. Although the platform is active in eleven countries, the government aims to link it with more global systems. This strategy focuses on markets with significant Indian populations or strong trade ties. Meanwhile, the nation’s 7.8 per cent economic growth continues to bolster international investor confidence.
