Transrail Lighting secures a 49% equity stake in NOPL Pace Green Energy to develop a 990 MW solar portfolio.
Transrail expands into renewable power by acquiring a massive stake in a Maharashtra agricultural solar project.
Currently, Transrail Lighting is shifting its focus towards renewable power generation. As a result, the firm has approved a ₹20 crore investment in NOPL Pace Green Energy. This move also marks a significant departure from its traditional engineering roots. Specifically, the proposed deal involves acquiring an initial 49 per cent equity stake.
The acquisition also gives Transrail access to a massive 990 MW solar portfolio. Developers are currently building these vital energy assets across Maharashtra. The strategic arrangement gives the company financial and project-management control. Moreover, the agreement allows it to buy the remaining shares later.
NOPL is executing these projects under Component C of the PM-KUSUM scheme. Therefore, the initiative aims to solarise agricultural feeders across the region. This government-backed effort will drastically improve daytime electricity availability for rural irrigation. The total indicative cost for this ambitious undertaking reaches ₹3,900 crore.
A robust 25-year power purchase agreement officially backs the entire portfolio. The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company guarantees a fixed tariff of ₹3.10 per unit. Financial institutions have already sanctioned the necessary debt funding for the project. However, all transactions remain subject to standard regulatory approvals and disbursement conditions.
Company executives noted that this investment diversifies their core procurement and construction operations. As a result, Transrail plans to leverage its strong execution capabilities to support long-term asset ownership. The chief executive officer described this transition as a crucial developmental milestone. Ultimately, the leadership expects these sustainable projects to generate steady long-term revenues.
