Union Minister Shri Piyush Goyal has successfully concluded a series of high-profile international visits.
Consequently, these strategic engagements aim to bolster India’s economic footprint across Asia and Europe. Primarily, the Minister focused on deepening bilateral trade ties and attracting foreign investment.
First, in Singapore, he strengthened the Asian partnership by meeting Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. Furthermore, discussions with Deputy PM Gan Kim Yong centred on industrial cooperation. Additionally, he engaged with leading Singaporean corporates to drive investment into India.
Moving on, the Minister visited Doha to co-chair the India-Qatar Joint Commission. Notably, this visit marked a significant milestone in India-Qatar economic relations. During this tour, he launched India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) in Qatar. Thus, this move will significantly ease financial transactions for the Indian diaspora. Moreover, he held vital talks with Qatar’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani.
Subsequently, the diplomatic mission shifted focus to Europe, starting with Geneva. Here, Shri Goyal addressed the 16th Session of UNCTAD. Specifically, he championed the cause of resilient and sustainable global supply chains. In addition, he emphasised India’s self-reliance under the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiative.
Following this, the Minister arrived in Berlin to celebrate the India-Germany Strategic Partnership. Accordingly, he met with German Economic Affairs Minister Katherina Reiche. Also, he chaired a crucial roundtable with CEOs of German “Mittelstand” companies. Therefore, the dialogue focused on enhancing collaboration in green technology and manufacturing.
Finally, the tour concluded with high-stakes negotiations in Brussels. Crucially, he met EU Executive Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič to fast-track the Free Trade Agreement. As a result, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to a balanced and equitable deal. Ultimately, these visits underscore India’s rising stature in the global economic order.
